Ólavur Højgaard, born in Vestmanna, Faroe Islands, is the lead singers and songwriter of the Faroese country/folk band, Vestmenn, with songwriter and back-up singer Martin Joensen, who also plays acoustic guitar in the band
Vestmenn is one of the most popular bands in the Faroe Islands, and has released a few very well recieved albums with original songs since the 80’s.
Ólavur released his first solo album on Tutl Records in 2008, a double release, one in Faroese and one in English, with songs written collaboratively by Ólavur himself and people like Martin Joensen and Lena Andersen.
The Faroese release, “Úr Vestmanna til Nashville”, and the English release, “When I’m Dreaming”, were both recorded in Nashville with local musicians there, like former Toto bassist, David Hungate.
Ólavur Højgaard’s latest release is the single, “In The Twilight”, which was written for the Haiti eathrquake victims, and was released in 2012 by the Red Cross, which collected all the proceeds on behalf of the victims.
