Hans Petur í Brekkunum

Copenhagen, Denmark

“Sooner Or Later” is the Faroese alto and soprano saxophonist, Hans Petur in Brukkunum’s debut jazz album. And what a good album. Hans Petur, who studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, has composed some extremely beautiful, lyrical and melodic compositions. On this debut album, “Sooner Or Later”, he has three young talents: Søren Bébe on piano, Anders Holm on drums and Thomas Ousager on percussion. And – more importantly – one of Denmarks world class jazz bassists, Jens Jefsen.

The result is a very good and catchy album.  Hans Petur in Brukkunum composed most of the tunes himself. The most beautiful track on the album remains his interpretation of the Faroese folk song, “Nú Liggur Ein Kavafonn Tindi Á”. This track is a wistful fantasy journey into the unknown, but yet interesting misty land, as an expression of that loneliness you may be suffering from when the fog hinders visibility to the neighboring islands.  This track is optimal because it has an edge.  But all in all, a strong debut album.
