Choral compositions is the main genre of Sámal. He has written music for several Faroese choirs, eg. Tarira, Tórshavnar kamarkór, Fuglafjarðar sangkór, Vágakórið, Húsakórið and Kristiliga sangkórið. As a choral conductor he has also written several popular music arrangements.
Sámal has been conducter of several choirs, e.g. Eystanljóð and Vágakórið. Currently he is conducting Kristiliga sangkórið located in Tórshavn.
Besides he is also an occasional lyrics-writer and also is active within the troubadour-genre. He plays piano, organ and guitar. He is organist at the church of Hvalvík. Nevertheless he is mainly a vocal soloist and a choral-singer. This vocal insight is of great help when arranging choral-arrangements.
Currently (summer 2019) Sámal is writing several choral compositions based on Alexandur Kristiansen’s translations of international poetry. This will probably be published in 2020.
